Real estate options in Cancun, Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya include new mega resort communities complete with professionally designed golf courses, marinas, beach clubs, shopping and more. There are also many new beach front condominium developments and condo hotels, a concept that is gaining popularity with buyers looking for a second home.
Because of the great demand in this market, the area has been ripe with investment opportunities as prices have risen about 15-20% or more annually. Those getting in early on pre-construction developments have cashed in for big gains and there are still deals to be had for the savvy investor.
The Mexican Caribbean
The Atlantic coastal area of Mexico is known as the Mexican Caribbean. The terrain is mostly flat with no interior bodies of water except for underground caves called cenotes, some of which have opened and have become exposed over time. There are no lakes or rivers. But there are miles and miles of beautiful white sandy beaches and crysal clear turquoise blue water.
The area is diverse with flaura and fauna, as well as rich with Mayan culture. There are still small villages throughout the area and the region is dotted with many Mayan archeological sites to explore.
The crime rate in this part of Mexico is very low and the lifestyle laid back and peaceful. Siesta time (from 2-5 PM) is still a tradition, although mostly for the family’s main meal.
